Trainee Quarry Operative

Location: Near Matlock, Derbyshire
Salary: £16.08 per hour, increasing after successful completion of training
Hours: 48 hours per week
Shift Pattern: 6am–2pm / 2pm–10pm / 10pm–6am, rotational, including some weekends
Employment Type: Full-time

We’re looking for people with the right attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn to join us as Trainee Quarry Operatives.

This is an opportunity to enter the quarrying industry and learn a range of practical skills while being fully trained on machinery, plant and site operations.

Your First Six Weeks

Your first six weeks will be worked on day shifts.

This gives you the opportunity to:

  • Learn the site and working environment.

  • Understand health and safety procedures.

  • Become familiar with the machinery.

  • Learn production processes.

  • Work alongside experienced team members.

  • Begin your formal training.

  • Build confidence before moving onto the rotational shift pattern.

Once your initial training period is complete, you’ll move onto:

6am–2pm | 2pm–10pm | 10pm–6am

The shift pattern is rotational and includes some weekends.

The full training programme is expected to take around four months, with an increase in pay following successful completion of the required training.

What You Could Learn

As your confidence and competence grow, you’ll be trained across a range of quarry and production activities, including:

  • Operating production machinery.

  • Monitoring heavy-duty equipment.

  • Operating mobile plant.

  • Driving and manoeuvring articulated lorries.

  • Moving materials around the site.

  • Carrying out production checks.

  • Monitoring machinery and reporting issues.

  • Maintaining equipment and work areas.

  • Understanding quarry production processes.

  • Working safely around large vehicles and machinery.

  • Supporting the wider production team.

The aim is to develop you into a multi-skilled quarry operative with the qualifications and practical experience to progress your career.

You might be right for this role if you’re currently working in construction, agriculture, warehousing, manufacturing, logistics, landscaping or another hands-on environment.

You might also be looking for your first proper opportunity to learn a skilled occupation.

Previous quarry experience is not required.

You must be:

A full UK driving licence is essential due to the location and requirements of the role.

Full PPE, training and appropriate safety procedures will be provided.

The operation is closed on Christmas Day. Bank holiday working may be required, with time off in lieu provided where applicable.
