Senior Field Service Engineer – Mechanical & Electrical

North West / West Midlands

Salary: £40,000–£50,000 Per Annum – Guaranteed Salary Package

Company Van | Expenses | Specialist Training

Edwards Employment Solutions are working with an established and respected engineering business to recruit an experienced Field Service Engineer for their specialist service operation.

This opportunity offers a different approach to field service remuneration, with a guaranteed salary of up to £50,000, rather than a lower basic salary supplemented by overtime payments.

We're looking for an experienced, technically capable engineer who understands that field service doesn't always fit neatly into a 9–5 working day.

In return, you'll benefit from a strong, predictable salary, autonomy in your role and the opportunity to develop your expertise within a specialist engineering sector.

The Role

You'll be responsible for servicing, maintaining, fault-finding and repairing specialist industrial weighing equipment, including weighbridges, at customer sites.

Your work will involve both planned maintenance and reactive breakdowns, primarily within your allocated geographical area.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out planned maintenance and servicing of industrial equipment.

  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults.

  • Attending reactive breakdowns and restoring equipment to working order.

  • Working independently and taking ownership of technical issues.

  • Building positive working relationships with customers.

  • Travelling to customer sites, with occasional overnight stays where necessary.

Working Hours & Flexibility – Please Read

This role offers a higher guaranteed salary in place of overtime payments, and it's important that candidates understand the working arrangements from the outset.

The business operates standard daytime working hours, typically 8am–4.30pm. However, field service engineering can be unpredictable, and flexibility is an essential part of this position.

There will be occasions when you are required to:

  • Start earlier or finish later to accommodate travel to and from customer sites.

  • Remain on site beyond normal working hours to complete essential repairs.

  • Respond to urgent breakdowns outside standard working hours.

  • Undertake some weekend work when operationally necessary.

  • Occasionally stay away overnight to support customer requirements.

The £40,000–£50,000 salary is inclusive of these reasonable additional working requirements. There are no separate overtime or unsociable hours payments.

The business recognises the importance of managing working hours fairly. Expectations around additional hours will be clearly defined, and where working time exceeds the agreed arrangements, time off in lieu (TOIL) will be provided.

The intention is not to create an expectation of unlimited working hours, but to offer a competitive, guaranteed salary that reflects the flexibility required in a senior field-based engineering position.

About You

We're looking for an experienced engineer who can hit the ground running from a mechanical and electrical engineering perspective.

You don't necessarily need experience in industrial weighing equipment, but you must already possess strong technical engineering skills.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Substantial hands-on mechanical and electrical engineering experience.

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding capabilities.

  • Experience working on industrial machinery, plant, agricultural equipment, materials handling equipment or similar.

  • The confidence to work independently and make sound technical decisions.

  • A professional, reliable and customer-focused approach.

  • A realistic understanding of the travel and working-hour demands of field service engineering.

Previous weighbridge experience is not essential. Full training will be provided on the specialist equipment, but this is not a trainee engineering position.

Salary & Benefits

  • £40,000–£50,000 guaranteed annual salary, depending on experience.

  • No reliance on overtime to achieve your agreed salary.

  • Company van.

  • Phone, laptop and tablet/PDA.

  • Fully expensed overnight accommodation when required.

  • Specialist technical and product training.

  • Long-term career development and progression opportunities.

  • Supportive, established engineering team.

The Opportunity

This is a particularly attractive opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys the independence and variety of field service work but would prefer the financial certainty of a higher guaranteed salary.

You'll be joining a business with an excellent reputation in its sector, a strong commitment to staff development and a genuine desire to recruit someone for the long term.

If you're a capable mechanical and electrical engineer, comfortable with the flexibility that comes with supporting customers in the field, we'd be keen to speak with you.
