Making Recruitment Easy
Hiring insights, practical advice, proven frameworks, market intelligence - and everything in between.
Recruitment shouldn't be complicated.
But bloody hell, we've done a good job of making it that way.
Job adverts. Candidate attraction. Salary benchmarking. Interviews. Skills shortages. Retention. Recruitment technology. AI. Employer branding. Compliance. Candidate experience.
Then there's the latest hiring trend someone on LinkedIn has decided is going to revolutionise recruitment forever.
And somewhere amongst all of that, you're just trying to find a decent person who can do the job.
So, we're going to try and make recruitment a bit easier.
At Edwards Employment Solutions, we've spent years recruiting people for businesses.
But actually, a huge amount of what we do has nothing to do with sending CVs.
Every day we're talking to HR teams, hiring managers and business leaders about what's happening in their businesses.
Why can't we find this person?
Are we paying enough?
Why are people accepting jobs and then changing their minds?
Why aren't we getting applications?
Is this job description putting people off?
Why did that candidate interview brilliantly with you and terribly with us?
What on earth is happening in the engineering market?
And, increasingly...
What the hell is AI going to do to recruitment?
Then, on the other side of the fence, we're talking to candidates.
Lots and lots of candidates.
We know what they're being offered. We know what they're turning down. We know what they're asking for. We know why they're leaving businesses, why they're staying and — perhaps most importantly — what they're saying to a recruiter that they might not necessarily say directly to an employer.
That puts us in quite an interesting position.
We sit right in the middle of the employment market.
And we've realised that there's a lot of knowledge sitting inside EES that could be genuinely useful to businesses — whether they're currently recruiting through us or not.
That's where Making Recruitment Easy comes in.
Making Recruitment Easy is our new educational series for HR professionals, hiring managers and business leaders.
And there's a pretty simple reason we're doing it.
I don't want our relationships with clients to be purely transactional.
Vacancy comes in → we send CVs → someone gets hired → we send an invoice → everyone disappears until the next vacancy.
That's recruitment at its most basic.
And frankly, I think we can add a lot more value than that.
A good recruitment partner should be useful when you're recruiting.
A great recruitment partner should still be useful when you're not.
So we're opening up more of what we know.
The conversations we're having.
The trends we're spotting.
The things candidates are telling us.
The mistakes we see businesses making.
The things we've tried that worked.
The things we've tried that absolutely didn't.
The frameworks we've developed.
The market data we're seeing.
And the occasional opinion that might not be what everyone wants to hear.
Because sometimes the answer isn't:
"There's a candidate shortage."
Sometimes it's:
"Your salary isn't competitive."
Or:
"Your recruitment process takes far too long."
Or:
"That job advert isn't very good."
Or even:
"You're looking for a unicorn. They don't exist. We need to rethink the brief."
That's useful information too.
What can you expect?
Some of Making Recruitment Easy will be broad.
We'll talk about interviewing, candidate attraction, recruitment processes, employer branding, AI, retention, salaries, candidate experience and all the other things that affect whether you can actually hire the people your business needs.
Some of it will be much more niche.
We might dive into recruiting maintenance engineers.
Or why contact centres struggle with attrition.
Or what candidates in a particular market are actually earning.
Or how to recruit 30 people when you needed them yesterday.
If it's affecting recruitment in the sectors we work in, we'll talk about it.
And we won't pretend to know everything either.
We'll bring in people who know more than we do.
HR specialists. Business leaders. Employment experts. Sector specialists. Technology providers. And hopefully plenty of people who are prepared to share what they've learned from actually doing the job.
No hour-long sales pitches disguised as webinars.
This bit matters to me.
We've all signed up for a webinar because the title sounded genuinely useful, only to realise ten minutes in that we're sitting through a 45-minute advert.
That's not what I want this to become.
Of course EES is a recruitment business.
We'd quite like you to use us when you need recruitment support. I'm not going to pretend otherwise.
But I don't think we have to sell to you every five minutes to make that happen.
I'd much rather EES became a business you already know, trust and turn to because we've been consistently useful.
So that's the deal.
We'll share what we know.
We'll give you things you can actually use.
We'll tell you what we're seeing in the market.
We'll occasionally challenge the way things have always been done.
And hopefully we'll make recruitment feel a little less complicated along the way.
Webinars, newsletters, tools and everything in between.
At the heart of Making Recruitment Easy will be a free monthly webinar.
Alongside that, this newsletter will land every two weeks with practical advice, observations from the market, useful resources and probably the occasional recruitment rant.
We'll also be developing templates, guides and frameworks that you can take away and use within your own business.
Some will help you recruit better yourself.
And I'm completely comfortable with that.
Because if the only value a recruitment company can offer you is finding a CV you couldn't find yourself, we're probably setting the bar a bit low.
For me, partnership should mean more than that.
It should mean having someone you can pick the phone up to and ask:
"Bella, what are you seeing out there?"
And getting a useful answer.
Whether there's a fee attached to it or not.
That's the relationship I want EES to have with the businesses we work with.
And that's exactly why we're launching Making Recruitment Easy.
Welcome to Making Recruitment Easy.
Hiring insights, practical advice, proven frameworks, market intelligence — and everything in between.
No fluff. No recruitment mystique.
Just useful stuff that hopefully helps you hire better.
