Machine Operative (Working Away)

Location: Based from Chesterfield – UK-wide travel
Salary: £13.84 per hour during training, increasing to £14.85 per hour after successful completion of training.

Additional pay

• Saturday: Time and a half
• Sunday: Double time
• Night shift premium: +£1.00 per hour

We are recruiting for a Machine Operative (Working Away) to join a well-established engineering business. Full training is provided, making this a great opportunity for someone with the right attitude and mechanical aptitude to develop their skills and build a long-term career.

The role

You will travel to customer sites across the UK, operating specialist machinery and equipment and ensuring it is used safely and efficiently.

This is a working-away position, with projects sometimes requiring you to stay away from home for up to 10 days at a time.

There is no fixed shift pattern, so flexibility is essential. You may be required to work days, nights and weekends depending on the project.

The company has good forward planning in place, meaning you will generally know where you are working at least one week in advance.

This is also a largely lone-working position, so you will need to be reliable, confident and comfortable working independently.

Important requirements

You must have:

• A full UK driving licence
• Your own car
• Flexibility to travel and work away from home
• Flexibility to work days, nights and weekends
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn

Experience

Previous experience in an industrial, manufacturing, mechanical or engineering environment would be beneficial.

Mechanical aptitude is important, but full training will be provided.

Experience with basic machining would be advantageous, and experience within the water industry would also be beneficial but is not essential.
